After much fuss about the Value Pack, Samsung now seems to have become serious in rolling out the same and in the due course of this article we will be checking out on how you can install this all new Value Pack firmware which is dubbed as XXJW4 and is the Gingerbread which ropes in the 2.3.6 firmware version. Over a period of this article we will be checking out on how you can apply this update irrespective of the current firmware you are on.
As of now this update is not yet pushed via KIES officially in most of the countries but it's expected to be pushed soon.
Caution: please note that this process should be only applied to the GT I9000 smartphone and not on any other model of Galaxy S.

Special Instructions to Users on Custom ROM Firmware:
- If you are on any of the custom ROM firmwares, then you first need to back up all the data which you can do by following the list of pre requisites and then turn Off your device so as to enter the device in the recovery mode.
- The Galaxy S I9000 can be entered into recovery mode by holding the Volume Up button + the Home key button (the middle button). While holding these both buttons, you need to turn ON your device.
- In recovery mode, select Wipe data/factory reset and also you need to select Wipe Cache partition and then reboot your device by selecting reboot system now with the help of Volume rocker keys.
Also, you need to get into the "Advanced Settings" and clear the "Dalvik Cache" too if any along with that also disable the "Voodoo Lag fix" if installed any. Once it's done, you then will have to select the option of "reboot system now" for restarting the device.

Rooting Information: Applying this update doesn't mean that you need to root the device before & also the device will not get rooted after applying this update. Quick Pre Requisites:
- Download the XXJW4 2.3.6 Value Pack Zip package from here to your computer.
- All the data there in your Galaxy S GT I9000 needs to be backed up, ensure that you are using the below mentioned steps to backup all your data. Since this update is not yet officially pushed via KIES, it won't be detected in KIES as of now.
SMS – Use "SMS Backup & Restore app",Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,Call Log – Call Log and RestoreImages, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path "Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names"
- Minimum charge left in the phone should be 80% so as to ensure that the phone doesn't get turned Off in the middle of firmware update. (If you don't follow this step then the chances are more that your phone may get DEAD for which we should not be responsible).
- Disable all the security suites installed in your computer and uninstall all antivirus tools in your computer so as to ensure that the firmware update is not interrupted in the middle of the process.

Tutorial to Update with New Value Pack XXJW4 Firmware in your Galaxy S GT I9000:
- Assuming that you have downloaded the Value Pack Zip Package from the previous page (Quick Pre Requisites), you now need to extract the same.
- Once extracted, open the Odin in your computer and turn Off your Galaxy S so that it can be then entered in the Download mode.
- Download mode can be entered by pressing Volume down Key, Center button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button after which a green robot will be shown indicating the Download Mode has been entered.
- Connect your Phone to the computer with the Original USB cable and then you will see that the ID: COM section will turn Yellow which will mean that all the drivers have been successfully updated.
Note: if the ID : COM section doesn't turn Yellow, you need to check with two things which are mentioned below,
Install the USB Drivers in your computer &Go to the Path "Settings > Wireless & Network > USB Settings" and ensure that "Samsung KIES" option is ticked before connecting the phone to the computer.
- Click on "PDA" and then select "JW4_JW4_JW4.tar". After this, all you need to do is to just click on "Start" to start the firmware update.
- Once the update is successfully completed, the device will be restarted and once you see the home screen then disconnect the phone from the connected computer.
- Now, just in case if you face any issues like force close then you need to turn Off your device and enter the device in the recovery mode. With the help of below shown video, you can easily learn on how to enter your phone in the recovery mode.
- In recovery mode, select Wipe data/factory reset and also you need to select Wipe Cache partition and then reboot your device by selecting reboot system now with the help of Volume rocker keys. Once it's done, you then will have to select the option of "reboot system now" for restarting the device.
Note: At any point of time just in case if the process of firmware update gets stopped due to any reason, all you need to do is restart the process from the start by re inserting the battery.
